Netflix announced that Season 3 will premiere on June 27, 2025.
Plot of the “Squid Game”
Each participant receives an invitation to the games in the form of business cards. The games are held on an isolated island. Grand prize money is up for grabs in these games, which seem like childhood games, but with deadly consequences.
The games are set to test their physical as well as mental abilities. Continuing in the game the players realize the only possible way to win the game is by deceiving the fellow players and the closed ones. Players are forced to use monstrous tactics in order to survive
Some of the main characters in the story are
- Seong Gi-hun: Protagonist of the story, who is a gambling addict and is forced to provide for his mother and daughter.
- Cho Sang-woo: childhood friend of the protagonist who once was an investment banker and is under the pressure of repaying his debt.
- Kang Sae-byeok: A North Korean defector trying to reunite with her family.
- Ali Abdul: A migrant worker from Pakistan who struggles to make ends meet for his family.
Season 1 Recap
The need for money for all 4 characters invites them to this ruthless game. However none of them know that progressing through each level will bring them closer to their deaths. Progressing through the series the mastermind behind the game is revealed and his true intentions. In the final episodes of the series we get to witness a thrilling duel between Gi-hun and his beloved friend Sang-woo. Season 1 ends with the victory of the protagonist.
Season 2 Recap
In season 2 unsatisfied with the victory and deeply regretting the loss of his friends, Seong Gi-hun decides to play the game again in order to avenge the mastermind. New games are introduced which are even more dangerous than the previous ones. Gi-hun discovers more about the ruthless organization behind the games as he digs deeper.
It is revealed that the competition is not just a game, but an entire system of exploitation for the benefit of the ultra-wealthy elite. Season 2 concludes with a dramatic face-off between the frontman and Gi-hun.
